Ply Magazine Winter Issue woolen spinning

The Critter Ranch Fibers are being featured
By Ply Magazine the winter issue out in just a few more days!!

I was asked by Jacey Boggs last fall if We could provide the fibers for the 2013 winter woolen addition of her new magazine Ply!
Of course I jumped at the chance, to have our fibers featured in a international magazine.
I sent her a blend of our finest llama, alpaca with some shetland from our good friend Willow Glen Farms
with some bling from fire-star and sheen from bamboo
the roving was a snow white base, with splashes of arctic blues & aquas ...Named winter Wonderland

I was then asked if I new of a long draw spinner who would /could spin up this fiber for there Knitter.
I of course gave her the name of my good friend Amanda from Willow Glen Farm, who was then asked to do the spinning for this.
Amanda also wrote a piece on long draw spinning for this same issue. Can't wait to see this winter issue, if you would like to subscribe to Ply magazine you can do so here www.plymagazine.com

here is the knitted sampler of the fiber

Amanda did an awesome job spinning this up I can't wait to see what item they chose to knit
 with it

A lot has happened here since Summer

Wow! It's winter and a lot has happened here
In November we welcomed our New Herd Sire,
Sir Silver Halo

He has his grand sires awesome silver color and calm sweet personality...he will start his career here in the spring of 2014
Can't wait to see his babies!

We once again participated in  the Western NY Fiber Arts Festival at Emery Park
in September that show has grown since last year...

We attended a Fiber festival at
The Greater Buffalo Knitting Guild
had a great time and can't wait till next year
in early Nov 2014
I did a Home School presentation on fiber arts in late October

I demonstrated fiber preparation from shearing, to a finished item the kids did a make and take felted soap in fall colors it was a very chilly day but a great time was had by all 15 children and 10 adults. If you are interested in something like this for your home school group, you can email me at sue@critterranch.com and I will put you in touch with the person who organizes the llama experience events, that include intro to llamas, a walk with llamas & lunch in the woods, llama fiber, shearing to spinning and a make and take craft (there is a Charge for this ).

We had several Classes at the farm store this year. We had our usual drop spindle, spinning classes, that we have every other Thursday, check our face book fan page for dates & times it gets shuffled around a lot. then we had, silk scarf dyeing and Roving dyeing, everyone had fun at both and made some awesome scarves and yarns from there work.. I am hoping to have needle felting and wet felting classes this coming year.

We had our largest shade tree fall...Just bang fall, I was on my back porch when it happened...that was a close one!!

Our beloved herd Sire Erick past away... so missed is this gentle spirit!
